Remembering the Kanji by James Heisig is one of the most well-known and popular books used for learning all 2,+ of the daily use kanji that are required to be known in order to be considered literate in Japanese.. The process it uses to do this, is to teach you the correct stroke order and meaning of each kanji. This book really shines when it comes to learning the meanings of kanji .   If you are an advanced Japanese learner, I recommend using real Japanese materials as much as possible. By this I mean books and articles written for native Japanese speakers – not for language learners. The ultimate goal is to speak fluent Japanese, the way native speakers do. You will learn the most natural language by using real life sources.

Introduction to Japanese Keigo The word 敬語 is written with the kanji “to respect / admire” and the kanji for the language. Japanese society has always cared for hierarchy till the point that the honorific speech seems to be a whole other language. The second edition of With Respect to the Japanese discusses the salient features of Japanese values and behaviors and contrasts them with the values and characteristics of Americans while examining the cultural differences in decision-making, rhetoric, management styles, behavior in /5(13).

The code of etiquette in Japan governs the expectations of social behavior in the country and is considered very important. Like many social cultures, etiquette varies greatly depending on one's status relative to the person in question. Many books instruct readers on its minutiae. Some conventions may be very regional practices, and thus may not exist in all regions of Japan.   The Minna No Nihongo books are entirely written in Japanese. You can purchase a companion book with translations and notes in English (or any one of 13 other languages, if English is not your native language). Because of this, it’s a great book for serious students! At the intermediate level, you should already be able to read basic Japanese.
